Decriminalize Nature DC would like to invite you to take part in a solo celebration of Bicycle Day! While we would have preferred to be able to gather together for a ride, getting out on our own and remotely sharing our experiences with one another is the next best thing! On April 19th, hop on your bike, take some selfies, and tag Decriminalize Nature DC! (Twitter: @DecrimNatureDC; Instagram: @decrimnaturedc)
Dress up if you like! Add your pictures, descriptions of your ride, or anything else that inspires you to your post. We also encourage other Decriminalize Nature campaigns to participate with us! Feel free to share this event with your supporters and/or post links to similar events. We can celebrate this together (solo) all over the country!
What is Bicycle Day? It is a celebration of the fateful day of April 19th, 1943, when Albert Hoffman took the modern Western world’s first psychedelic trip. Five years after first synthesizing LSD, which was derived from a rye fungus called ergot, Albert Hoffman tested the properties of the compound by taking what he expected to be a very mild dose – .25 grams (250 micrograms). He then asked his assistant to accompany him home and he rode his bike while tripping through the streets of Basel, Switzerland. He was quoted in his book LSD: My Problem Child as saying: “Everything in my field of vision wavered and was distorted as if seen in a curved mirror. I also had the sensation of being unable to move from the spot. Nevertheless, my assistant later told me that we had traveled very rapidly.”
In addition to discovering LSD, Albert Hoffman was the first chemist to identify the active ingredient in magic mushrooms and to first synthesize psilocybin. DNDC is fighting to decriminalize magic mushrooms and other entheogens in our nation’s capital.
