Decriminalize Nature DC Thanks Congressional Advocates for Supporting DC Democracy
Proposed Amendment Attempting to Thwart DC Ballot Initiative 81 to Reform Police Priorities for Healing Plant and Fungi Medicines Withdrawn
WASHINGTON, DC – Decriminalize Nature DC is pleased that Rep. Andy Harris (R-MD) withdrew his undemocratic amendment attempting to derail Initiative 81 due to lack of committee support.
Initiative 81 Proposer Melissa Lavasani said, “On behalf of the campaign and the more than 36,000 DC voters who signed petitions to put Initiative 81 on the ballot, I would like to thank Chairwoman Nita Lowey (D-NY), Subcommittee Chairman Mike Quigley (D-IL), and Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D-DC) for being tireless advocates for DC democracy.”
She added, “Our campaign is about helping DC residents by enacting commonsense reforms to police priorities that ensure that those using healing plant and fungi medicines are not law enforcement targets. Today, our campaign is focused on certifying petitions before the Board of Elections so that DC constituents can vote on this critical issue in November.”
