On Wednesday, October 21, the Campaign to Decriminalize Nature DC hosted an  educational webinar “The Healing Potential of Iboga.”  We invited thought leaders on the healing potential of the iboga plant, Dana Beal and Aton Edwards, to join us to discuss the potential of iboga and its active principle, ibogaine, as a healing treatment for heroin abuse, methamphetamine abuse, and Parkinson’s disease.

Veterans Healing Stories and Initiative 81

On Wednesday, October 7, the Campaign to Decriminalize Nature DC hosted prominent voices from the veteran community to share their stories of healing with some plant medicines covered by Initiative 81. The veterans on this panel represent non-profit organizations at the forefront of the push to make psychedelic-assisted treatments accessible for those who have endured traumatic experiences. By sharing their personal stories and corroborating research, panelists offered compelling insight into the therapeutic potential of entheogens and illuminate why deprioritizing law enforcement via Initiative 81 could benefit veterans in DC.

Entheogens and Our Environment: An Educational Panel

On Wednesday, September 30, the Campaign to Decriminalize Nature DC teamed up with environmentalists and naturalists to put on an educational zoom panel that explored the interplay between environmentalism and entheogenic plants & fungi. This panel provided a space where environmental and naturalist groups and experts to bring their diverse backgrounds to the table to enrich and widen the scope of the topic at hand. Our goal in the panel is to educate people on the natural plants and fungi of Initiative 81, the role these entheogens play in our shared environment, and how decriminalization serves to address the impending climate crisis.

DC Medical Voices Speak Out For Initiative 81: A Panel Discussion with DC Medical Community Members

On Thursday, September 24, the Campaign to Decriminalize Nature DC hosted “DC Medical Voices Speak Out for Initiative 81: A Panel Discussion with Members of DC’s Medical Community.” Panelists discussed the current research on entheogenic plants and fungi and the therapeutic applications of entheogens. Panelists also provided a historical perspective on entheogens, including barriers to research resulting from the War on Drugs, the historic therapeutic uses of entheogens among BIPOC communities, and answered questions from viewers.

Sign The Petition

On May 6, 2020, the DC Board of Elections issued the Campaign to Decriminalize Nature DC the official circulating petition for Initiative 81. The Campaign has until July 6 to collect 30,000 signatures from DC voters to place Initiative 81 on November’s general election ballot. DC voters can participate by downloading the petition, printing it out, getting every DC voter in their home to sign it, and sending it back to us either by email or by mail.

The “Petition At Home” packet linked above contains a letter from the proposer, testimonials, FAQ, instructions, and on the last page, the official Initiative 81 petition. If you would like to save paper, only print Page #5 of the “Petition At Home” packet. For detailed instructions on how to complete the Initiative 81 petition, we urge you to visit our Petition page.

After you print out the petition and have every DC voter in your home sign the petition, you can either:

  • Scan or take a high quality photo with your phone and email it to Submit@DecrimNatureDC.org
  • Mail your petition to:

Our Stories – Our Lineages – Our Directions

Melissa Lavasani shares her story of healing from post-partum depression with the help of natural plant and fungi medicines, which inspired her to lead the push to reform laws for entheogens in the District of Columbia. Earth Day And Entheogens: What’s The Connection?

This Wednesday from 7:30pm-8:30pm come celebrate Earth Day with the Campaign to Decriminalize Nature DC! We are inviting everyone to join us for a Zoom discussion centered on the interplay between entheogenic plant medicines and environmentalism. All are welcome to participate via engaging in discussion or simply tuning in to listen to what others have to say. The invited speakers will approach this topic through a variety of lenses that each hold their own unique concepts. Some of the approaches stem from: anthropology, law, ecology, and personal experience.
